Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012-05-08
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
SOP AA 1020-2007 + AA 1020-1128
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
other: AA 1020-2007 + AA 1020-1128
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Key result
Boiling pt.:
151 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 atm
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
> 130 °C
Remarks on result:
other:
Remarks:
The slightly lower onset in the decomposition test (130 °C) is probably due to the lower heating rate used (3 K/min).

The DSC trace shows a well-defined melting peak (onset approx. 55 °C) and an endothermic boiling peak in

the 150 – 195 °C region. The peak is broader than for a typical boiling peak. The second measurement used a larger hole in case there

was a problem with residues blocking the hole, and a nitrogen purge to prevent oxidation. The result was consistent with the first measurement,

indicating that these effects are not significant.

After the end of the second measurement the pan was opened. It contained brown residue, indicating that decomposition had occurred during boiling.

This is consistent with the results of the decomposition test. The slightly lower onset in the decomposition test (130 °C) is probably due to the lower

heating rate used (3 K/min).

Conclusions:
Boiling point: start of boiling 151 ±6 °C (decomposes on boiling)
Executive summary:

The boiling point study was performed according to SOP AA 1020-2007 + AA 1020 in year 2012. The DSC method was used.

Boiling point: start of boiling 151 ±6 °C (decomposes on boiling).
