Substance Fatty acids, C18-24, zinc salts is not highly flammable. The molten substance burns in contact with the flame but without it stops combustion immediately.

Flammability in contact with water

The substance does not contain groups that might lead to a reaction with water or damp air, leading to the development of dangerous amounts of gas or gases which may be highly flammable. Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of the substance shows that it does not react with water (cf. section 1, Annex XI of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006).

Pyrophoric properties

This substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming in contact with air at room temperature (circa 20 °C). The ionic and anionic moieties of substance Fatty acids,C18-24, zinc salts are present in stable oxidation states. Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in handling shows that the substance does not ignite in contact with air (cf. section 1, Annex XI of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Substance Fatty acids, C18-24, zinc salts is not "highly flammable" according to the criteria of the  EEC-Directive 92/69 EEC, A.10 "Flammability (solids)", has no pyrophoric properties and does not contain groups that might lead to a reaction with water or damp air, leading to the development of dangerous amounts of gas or gases which may be highly flammable.

According to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations, substance Fatty acids, C18-24, zinc salts does not have to be classified as flammable. According to the criteria of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008, substance Fatty acids, C18-24, zinc salts does not have to be classified and has no obligatory labelling requirement for flammability.
