Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
other: Expert assessment
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
May 11, 2018
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: An assessment was performed for 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) based on an examination of the molecular structure (functionality) of its parent acid and amine components.
Qualifier:
no guideline required
Principles of method if other than guideline:
An assessment was performed to determine the water solubility of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) by examination of the molecular structure and functionality of its parent acid and amine components; 2- ethylhexanoic acid and 2-aminoethanol.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Expert assessment
Key result
Remarks on result:
other: High solubility in water
Conclusions:
2-Ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) was assessed in the form of its acid and amine components and is expected to be highly soluble in water.
Executive summary:

2-Ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) was assessed in the form of its acid and amine components in order to determine its water solubility. 2-Ethylhexanoic acid and 2-aminoethanol are soluble in water and as a result of the ionisation to the carboxylate and ammonium groups, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) is expected to be freely soluble in water. The 2-aminoethanol in 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) that is not present as part of the salt, is expected to exhibit a very high water solubility and it will most likely be fully miscible. Further, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1) is manufactured as a solution in water (~33 % w/w) and the organic constituents are completely dissolved within it, further supporting the high solubility of the substance in water.

Description of key information

To determine the water solubility of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, compound with 2-aminoethanol (1:1), the molecular structure and functionality of its parent acid and amine components; 2- ethylhexanoic acid and 2-aminoethanol, were reviewed. According to expert assessment, the registered substance is anticipated to exhibit a high solubility in water.
