The test substance pile was observed critically for any combustion and/or propagation of combustion, either by burning with a flame or by smouldering. Other observations such as melting or change of colour were also noted.

Because the test substance did not ignite and propagate combustion over 200 mm within 4 minutes in the preliminary test, the main study was not required.

The flame of a gas burner not ignited the test substance pile. In contact with the flame, the test substance melted and turned transparent. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion (e.g. by smouldering) was observed.
