The test item Vanadium(lll) acetylacetonate melts at 188 °C and decomposes at 200°C into Vanadyl acetylacetonate and Pent-3-en-2-one.

The substance Identity of the decomposition product was proven by an additional experiment:

The 1g of test item Vanadium(lll) acetylacetonate was heated under Argon for 1h to 210°C. After cooling to room temperature an IR Spectra of the Vanadium(lll) acetylacetonate, Vanadyl acetylacetonate (Reference material) and the solid decomposition product were recorded.

The IR spectra of the solid decomposition product matches with the IR spectra of Vanadium(lll) acetylacetonate.

At the decomposition point the other decomposition product Pent-3-en-2-one evaporates (enthalpy of vaporization, endothermic, see the endothermic peak at 200 °C for decomposition).

The Vanadyl acetylacetonate melts at 260°C and decomposes endothermic in Vanadium oxide at 325 °C.

As no significant exothermic effects were observed up to 500 °C no further tests for explosive properties had to be performed.

Conclusions:
In the DSC-measurement of the test Item Vanadium(lll)acetylacetonat melts at 188 °C and decomposes endothermic at 200 °C. No significant exothermic effects were observed up to 500 °C.
Therefore, further tests for explosive properties did not have to be performed.
Executive summary:

The melting point of the test material was determined in a non-GLP study experimentally using the ASTM E537 - 12 - Standard Test Method for The Thermal Stability of Chemicals by Differential Scanning Calorimetry according to OECD guideline 102. The test material melts at 188 °C and decomposes at 200 °C. No significant exothermic effects were observed up to 500 °C.

According to the results of the test on thermal stability and explosive properties, the test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance in class 1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.1): The test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.1, respectively.
