Description of key information

The biodegradability of Reaction mass of 2-ethyl-2-(methoxymethyl)-propane-1,3-diol and 2 ethylpropane-1,3-diol was determined according to OECD guideline 301A (DOC Die away test). The amount of biodegradation observed comprised ca. 30% after 7 days and increased to ca. 81% after 14 days. 2-ethylpropane-1,3-diol can therefore be classified as readily biodegradable and passing the 10 day window. As such removal in the environment is expected to be rapid and so further information on abiotic removal (hydrolysis), transport and distribution (adsorption/desorption) are not required.

There is no risk of persistence in the environment and biological removal processes will be rapid with complete mineralization expected within a short time frame.

The weighted average log Pow of Reaction mass of 2-ethyl-2-(methoxymethyl)-propane-1,3-diol and 2 ethylpropane-1,3-diol is low (0.42). As such no significant adsorption to soil or sediment is expected. Similarly there is no risk of bioaccumulation for 2-ethylpropane-1,3-diol based on the log Pow.
