Flash point:
132 °C

The flash point of Dodecane was determined to be 79.3 °C, hardly deviating from the literature value (78.6 °C, ASTM D 7094, Table X1.1).

For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement, a screen test was performed with the test item. The sample was heated from 30 °C to 200 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. Based on this preliminary test the flash point of the test item was determined to be: 132.4 °C.

In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points were: 132.4 °C, 131.4 °C and 132.4 °C resulting a mean value: 132 °C at 101.3 kPa.

The repeatability criterion was met because the maximum difference between replicate determinations was not more than 2 °C.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test item was determined to be 132 °C at 101.3 kPa.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9, EPA OPPTS 830.6315, ASTM D93, ASTM D6450 - 16a, ASTM D7094 - 16 and UN Handbook Method 32.4 to determine the flash point of the test item using a closed cup method with Pensky-Martens apparatus. A screening test was performed to determine the rough flash point. The sample was heated from 30 °C to 200 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of the test item were: 132.4 °C, 131.4 °C and 132.4 °C resulting a mean value: 132 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Description of key information

The flash point of the test item was determined to be 132 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
132 °C

Additional information

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9, EPA OPPTS 830.6315, ASTM D93, ASTM D6450 - 16a, ASTM D7094 - 16 and UN Handbook Method 32.4 to determine the flash point of the test item using a closed cup method with Pensky-Martens apparatus. A screening test was performed to determine the rough flash point. The sample was heated from 30 °C to 200 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. The measured flash points of the test item were: 132.4 °C, 131.4 °C and 132.4 °C resulting a mean value: 132 °C at 101.3 kPa. According to Regulation (EC) 1227/2008 (CLP), as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EC) No 2017/776, the test item does not have to be classified with respect to flammable liquids.
