Description of key information

EC50 (3 h) = 569 mg/L and NOEC (3 h) = 130 mg/L (nominal, OECD 209) based on read across from reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
569 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
130 mg/L

Additional information

Experimental data on the toxicity of 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate,hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) towards microorganisms are not available. Therefore, in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 “Grouping of substances and read across” and the read across assessment framework (RAAF, ECHA 2017) a read across from the analogue substance reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) has been performed. Details on the read-across justification can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.

The influence of the source substance reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated according to OECD 209, EU Method C.11 and GLP standards (2004). The nominal concentrations tested were 10, 32, 100, 320 and 284 mg/L. After an incubation period of 3 h, the test item had no significant inhibitory effect (< 15%) on the respiration rate of activated sludge up to a concentration of 100 mg/L. At the higher test item concentrations of 320 and 1000 mg/L, significant effects of 32.3 and 70.7%, respectively, were noted. The EC50 (3 h) was determined to amount 569 mg/L and the NOEC (3 h) was 130 mg/L (nominal).

Based on the results with the source substance and the attached read across justification, similar effects on the respiration of activated sludge are expected by the target substance 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-, N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9).
