Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Flammability:

The test substance pile was ignited for 2 minutes applying a flame as ignition source in the preliminary test. White smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test item was observed.

Pyrophoric solids:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

Flammability in contact with water:

The study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water.

Self-heating substances / mixtures:

The test item was exposed to air at 140°C using a temperature controlled laboratory oven, a cubic stainless steel wire 10 cm sample container, NiCr/Ni thermocouples and a temperature recording device. A negative result was obtained. No spontaneous ignition occurred and no exothermic effect of the test item was observed. It demonstrated that the test item is "not a self-heating substance". According to the UN guideline, no further testing is required.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Flammable solids:

This substance does not ignite and propagate combustion by burning with flame within the 2 minutes test period.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 section 2.7.2.1, this substance should not be classified as flammable solids.

Pyrophoric solids:

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 section 2.10.4.1, the classification procedure for pyrophoric solids need not be applied when experience in manufacture or handling shows that the substance or mixture does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures (i.e. the substance is known to be stable at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days)). As experience show this substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperature, so the classification procedure for pyrophoric solids need not be applied for this substance.

Substances and mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases:

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 section 2.12.4.1(a), the classification procedure for this class need not be applied if experience in production or handling shows that the substance or mixture does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water. So the classification procedure for this class need not be applied for this substance.

Self-heating substances and mixtures:

Negative result obtained at 140°C using a 10 cm sample cube. No spontaneous ignition occurred and no exothermic effect of the test item was observed

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 section 2.11.2., this substance should not be classified as self-heating substances and mixtures.
