Flammability
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
- Justification for type of information:
- MTDID 49220 is a liquid with a flash point of 10 °C, and is considered a flammable liquid, category 2. It has a melting point of < -80 °C. The structure of the chemical does not contain any chemically instable or highly energetic groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition. The substance does not contain any metals, transition metals, boron, or silicon, and the structure does not include moieties that would result with a reaction with water, air, or damp air might lead to emanation of flammable gases. An auto-ignition temperature of 355 °C was observed for MTDID 49220.

- A melting point of < -80 °C was observed for MTDID 49220 as determined by EU Method A.1.
- Executive summary:
The melting point of MTDID 49220 was tested using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Crystallization and melting of the test substance was not observed by DSC. Two subsamples of MTDID 49220 were then placed in freezers for 66 hours at -19.3 ± 0.5 °C and at -83.4 °C ± 1.8 °C, respectively. After storage it was visually observed that the test substance was a liquid. Based on this it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test substance is < -80 °C. The study was conducted in accordance with EU Method A.1 and was GLP compliant; therefore the study is considered reliable without restrictions.
Crystallization and melting of MTDID 49220 were not observed by experiments on the DSC (range = approximately -90 °C to 400 °C). Two subsamples of MTDID 49220 were then placed in freezers for 66 hours at -19.3 ± 0.5 °C and at -83.4 °C ± 1.8 °C, respectively. After storage, it was visually observed that the test substance was a liquid. Based on this it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test substance is < -80 °C.
