Description of key information

OO-tert-butyl monoperoxymaleate is a white solid which can only be marketed together with a liquid phlegmatizer because of the substance's thermal instability. The marketed product has a self-accelerated decomposition temperature (SADT) of +55 °C and is classified as an organic peroxide Type C. Due to this thermal instability in combination with the substance's explosive properties, testing is disregarded for determination of the boiling point and the vapour pressure. However, the vapour pressure (0.147 Pa at 25 °C) is estimated by QSAR as a vapour pressure value is required for exposure calculations. Furthermore, testing for oxidizing properties does not need to be conducted for organic peroxides and flammability is an intrinsic hazard of this substance class. The self-ignition temperature does not need to be determined because the substance's thermal stability is quantitatively given by its SADT. The density of the product placed on the market is 1.23 g/cm³ at 20 °C. OO-tert-butyl monoperoxymaleate has a water solubility of 642 mg/L at 20 °C and the respective log Pow is 0.9.
