Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 72 h EC50 value was 1.8 mg/l. The result is based on growth inhibition of S. capricornutum as determined by chlorophyll a concentration. The concentration of test material was analytically measured

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.8 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of EPIKOTE 862 has been determined to Selenastrum capricornutum. The quoted EC50 value is the measured concentration resulting in 50% reduction in chlorophyll concentration in relation to controls to indicate algal growth.

Dilutions of the saturated solution of EPIKOTE 862 resulted in a series of initial measured concentrations from 10 to 0.31 mg/L. By the end of the 72 h exposure period the concentration fell by 34 to 44% of the initial measured concentration. The acute toxicity of EPIKOTE 862 to S. capricornutum was determined in a 72 h sealed static toxicity test without renewal of the test media. Based upon the mean measured concentrations of EPIKOTE 862 in the test media over the duration of the test 72 h EC50 value has been calculated to be 1.8 mg/L. . The EPIKOTE 155 study used a high loading rate (1000 mg/L) generate test solutions. The actual concentrations were not measured as the amount soluble in water would be below the level of detection. Even at this high loading rate there was insufficient test material solved in the test solution to exhibit any toxicity. This study reports a 72 hour EC50 of >1000 mg/L.
