First-aid measures

DESCRIPTION OF FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation:

If inhaled, move to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration and/or oxygen. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Skin contact:

Remove contaminated clothing. Flush skin with plenty of soap and water. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Eye contact:

Rinse eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical attention.

Ingestion:

If swallowed, wash out mouth with water. Seek immediate medical attention.

MOST IMPORTANT SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS, BOTH ACUTE AND DELAYED

As a pharmaceutical intermediate, the toxicity and potency of this substance are not fully known. The substance is wetted with a mixture of water and impurity. The impurity affects CNS if inhaled and may cause drowsiness or dizziness. If in eyes irritation may occur.

INDICATION OF ANY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED

Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Suitable extinguishing media:

Use water spray, foam, dry powder or carbon dioxide as appropriate for surrounding fire and materials.

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

No limitations given for this substance.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE

Flammable due to presence of flammable impurity. Forms explosive mixtures with air at ambient temperatures. Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. In case of fire toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrochloride (HCl) may be emitted.

ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Use recommended personal protective equipment during removal of spillages.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Do not let the substance enter into drains.

METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP

Moisten the spillages prior to sweeping up. Keep in closed suitable container and hold for waste disposal. Ventilate area and wash spill site with water after material pickup is completed.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING

Avoid breathing dust or vapours and contact with eyes and skin. Handle in well-ventilated areas. Use recommended personal protective equipment.

CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES

Store at regular indoor conditions, generally 15 to 25°C. Keep container tightly closed.

Exposure controls / personal protection

CONTROL PARAMETERS

To the best of our knowledge, established occupational exposure limit value is not available for the substance.

For impurity:

Long Term Exposure Limit, LTEL (8 h):  350 mg/m3

Short Term Exposure Limit, STEL (15 min): 600 mg/m3.

EXPOSURE CONTROL

Appropriate engineering controls:

Use appropriate controls (e.g. containment, local exhaust ventilation, fume hood) as specified in a workplace risk assessment. Technical measures and appropriate operations should be given priority over the use of personal protective equipment. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Personal protective equipment:

- Eye face protection: Use safety goggles. A device for eyewash should be available.

- Skin protection: Handle with impervious gloves. The selected gloves must comply with the specifications in EC Directive 89/686/EEC and the related standard EN374 or applicable federal, state and national legislation.

- Protective clothing: Impervious clothing. The type should be selected according to concentrations and quantities of the hazardous substance handled at the specific workplace. In dust generating operations wear disposable coverall.

- Respiratory protection: Required when vapours and dusts are generated. Choice of respiratory protection should be appropriate to the task and the level of existing engineering controls. Use air-purifying respirator with combination filters for routine powder handling in process scale and positivepressure air-supplied respirator if there is a potential of uncontrolled release. In laboratories, use fume hood or laminar flow booth.

- Environmental exposure controls: Do not empty into drains.

Stability and reactivity

REACTIVITY

No known reactivity hazards under normal conditions.

CHEMICAL STABILITY

The substance is chemically stable at standard ambient conditions (room temperature), generally 15 to 25°C.

POSSIBILITY OF HAZARDOUS REACTIONS AND CONDITIONS TO AVOID

None known.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS

Oxididants. Strong acids and bases.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS

Carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and hydrogen chloride (HCl).

Disposal considerations

WASTE TREATMENT METHODS

Dispose waste at authorized plant, in accordance with Directive 2008/98/EC and/or applicable federal, state, national and local laws.

INFORMATION ON RECYCLING AND METHODS OF DISPOSAL FOR INDUSTRY

Avoid dust generation and inhalation of dust. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not ingest. Wear all recommended personal protective equipment. Wash thoroughly after handling. Dispose waste at authorized plant, in accordance with applicable national, federal, state or local legislation. Disposal could be sent for external waste handling company for incineration. Do not empty into drains or water courses.

INFORMATION ON RECYCLING AND METHODS OF DISPOSAL FOR THE PUBLIC

This substance is not for public use. This is an on-site isolated intermediate and therefore this entry is not applicable.
