Description of key information

Of the organic components within the relevant carbon range, many are known skin and eye irritants. In addition some of the key components (Carbon disulphide, benzene, toluene, dicyclopentadiene) have a harmonised classification as skin and eye irritants. As a majority of the composition consists of known eye and skin irritants benzol forerunnings (coal) has to be considered as a skin and eye irritant.

Moreover, following acute inhalation exposure studies of dicyclopentadiene several adverse respiratory effects have been observed, leading to a harmonised classification as STOT SE 3, H335 May cause respiratory irritation. Also cyclopentadiene is considered having the same effects, and as these two compounds together can make up more than 50% of benzol forerunnings (coal), classification is warranted

This results in the following classification:

* Skin irritant category 2 (H315: Causes skin irritation)

* Eye irritant category 2 (H319: Causes serious eye irritation)

* STOT single exposure category 3 (H335: May cause respiratory irritation)
