Key result
Surface tension:
31.75 mN/m
Temp.:
25 °C
Conc.:
4.32 mg/L
Remarks on result:
other: Surface active substance

Results:

Sample concentration (mg/l) 4.32

Surface tension (mN/m) 31.75

The calculation of surface tension of a concentration of 4.32mg/L (90% of CMC) is carried out using the regression line obtained in Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) determination.

y = -11,929x + 39,325

Where x belongs to log 4.32 = 0.635

y = -(11,929*0.635) + 39,325 = 31.750 mN/m

Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, surface tension of the test substance determined to be 31.750 mN/m at the concentration of 4.32 mg/L at 25ºC.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the surface tension of the test substance, Quaternary ammonium compounds, N,N,N'-tris(hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-dimethyl-N'-tallow alkyltrimethylenedi-, bis(Me sulfates) (salts), using the tensiometer kruss standard plate method according to the OECD Guideline 115. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the substance is 4.8 mg/L. According to guideline, the preparation and handling of the sample should be a solution of the substance in distilled water in a concentration of 90% of the saturation solubility 90% of the CMC (4.8 mg/L) is 4.32 mg/L. The calculation of surface tension of a concentration of 4.32 mg/L (90% of CMC) is carried out using the regression line obtained in Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) determination. Under the study conditions, surface tension of the test substance determined to be 31.750 mN/m at the concentration of 4.32 mg/L at 25ºC. Therefore, the test substance was considered to be surface-active (Ventura, 2017).
