Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation:

If high concentrations are inhaled, immediately remove to fresh air. Keep persons calm. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call a physician.

Skin Contact:

In case of skin contact, flush with water for 15 minutes.

Get medical attention if irritation is present.

Eye Contact:

In case of eye contact, immediately rinse eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Call a physician.

Ingestion:

No specific intervention is indicated as the compound is not likely to be hazardous by ingestion. Consult a physician if necessary. Do not induce vomiting because the hazard of aspirating the material into the lungs is considered greater than swallowing it.

Fire-fighting measures

General: Flammable

The gas is heavier than air and may travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition and flashback.

Extinguishing media

Foam and CO2.  All known extinguishants can be used.

Water spray should be used to cool containers.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Combustion or thermal decomposition will evolve very toxic and corrosive vapours such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrogen chloride (HCl) and/or carbonyl fluoride (COF2)

Advice for firefighters:

A self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in fire conditions.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when entering area unless atmosphere is proved to be safe. Evacuate area. Ensure adequate air ventilation. Eliminate ignition sources.

Environmental precautions

Try to stop release. Prevent from entering sewers, basements and work pits, or any place where its accumulation can be dangerous.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Absorb into dry earth or sand. Transfer to a closable, labeled salvage container for

disposal by an appropriate method. Do not use equipment in clean-up procedure which

may produce sparks.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Ensure equipment is adequately earthed. Suck back of water into the container must be prevented. Purge air from system before introducing gas. Do not allow feed back into the container. Use only properly specified equipment which is suitable for this product, its supply pressure and temperature. Contact your gas supplier if in doubt. Keep away from ignition sources (including static discharges). Refer to supplier's handling instructions.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Secure cylinders to prevent them fall. Segregate from oxidant gases and other oxidants in store. Keep container below 40°C in a well ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Ingredients with occupational exposure limits to be monitored

•       Material: 3,3,4,4,4-Pentafluoro-1-butene

•       CAS No. 374-27-6

Exposure controls

Occupational exposure controls

Engineering Controls:

Use exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentration below exposure limit. Local exhaust should be used when large amounts are released. Mechanical ventilation should be used in low places.

Personal protection:

•       Respiratory Protection: Ensure adequate ventilation. Chemical cartridge respirator with an organic vapour cartridge should be used. Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is required if a large linkage occurs.

•       Eye Protection: Chemical splash goggles should be available for use as needed to prevent eye contact.

•       Skin protection: Impervious gloves should be used avoid prolonged or repeated exposure.

Other Comments: Eye bath and safety shower.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: Stable under recommended transport or storage conditions.

Chemical stability:  Stable under normal conditions. Stable at room temperature.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: Hazardous reactions will not occur under normal transport or storage conditions.

Conditions to avoid: Heat. Hot surfaces. Sources of ignition. Flames.

Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid (Incompatibilities): Strong oxidizing agents, Strong acids, Alkali or Alkaline earth metals-powdered Al, Zn, Be, etc.

Hazardous decomposition products: Decomposition products are hazardous. This compound can be decomposed by high temperatures (open flames, glowing metal surfaces, etc.) forming hydro-fluoric acids-possibly carbonyl fluoride

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Disposal operations: MATERIAL SHOULD BE DISPOSED OF IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL, STATE AND

FEDERAL REGULATIONS

Disposal of packaging: Dispose of as special waste in compliance with local and national regulations Observe all federal, state and local environmental regulations.
