Description of key information

Based on a weight of evidence approach, the toxicity of spanish sage oil to aquatic organisms was estimated with the additivity formula, as recommended in the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), using adequate toxicity data of major constituents, greater than 1% in the UVCB substance considered as a mixture. Eleven constituents were considered, representing 83.82% of the mixture.

Based on individual toxicities of these eleven major constituents, the LC50 value for spanish sage oil is estimated to be 1.103 mg/L for aquatic invertebrates.

Based on individual toxicities of these eleven major constituents, the EC50 value for spanish sage oil is estimated to be 1.979 mg/L for aquatic algae.

Acute toxicity :

Based on these results, the lowest acute E(L)C50 is higher than 1 mg/L

Therefore, the registered substance would not be classified as acute 1 to aquatic organisms in accordance with the classification of the CLP.

Chronic toxicity :

E(L)C50 values are between 1 and 10 mg/L, the subtance is considered to be rapidly degradable and Log Kow of 7 constituents representing about 27% of the UVCB are > 4.

Considering these three criteria, the item should be classified in category 3 (H412).
