- Sublethal observations / clinical signs:
Test material was investigated for acute effects in Poecilia reticulata.
A6/l/0 appeared to adsorb strongly to glass material and was hardly soluble in Dutch Standard Water (DSW).
The fish were exposed for 96 hours to nominal concentrations ranging from 56 to 1000 mg A6/1/0/litre of Deutch Standard Water (DSW), forming a geometric progression with a factor of 1.8.
100% Mortality was observed at the nominal ncentration of 1000 mg/1 after 24 hours of exposure, whereas at 560 mq/L all fish survived, but had increased pigmentation and showed decreased swimming. These effects disappeared during further exposure.
No effects were seen at the nominal concentrations of 320 mg/1 and lower.
Calculation of the actual concentration of A6/l/0 in DSW was based on determination of the concentrations of the hydrolysis product butoxyethylacetoacetate using a gas chromatographic method. No dectable concentrations of butoxyethylacetoacetate were found in sample from 560 mg/L, whereas the actual concetration of test material calculated in sample of 1000mg/L at 24hours was 21mg/L.
Hence, the nominal calculated 96h-LC50 for fish exposed to A6/l/0 appeared to be between 560 and 1000 mg/1, whereas the actual 96b-LC50 was estimated to be < 60 mg/1. The nominal No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) was 560 mg/L.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The nominal No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) was 560 mg/L.
- Executive summary:
In an acute toxicity study in poecilia reticulata according to method C1 of EEC Directive 84/449, the nominal No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) was 560 mg/L.
