- Remarks:
- Two vessels were set up in a parallel design, each vessel was sampled several times instead of sampling one single vessel at each point in time; mean temperature: 21.8 ± 0.4 °C
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)

- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Remarks:

- Type of method:
- flask method
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Storage: Store tightly sealed in original container at well-ventilated premises. Do not leave container open. Avoid residues on the container.
Hazardous fluoride containing pyrolysis products might be formed upon intensive heating. - Water solubility:
- 19.1 g/L
- Conc. based on:
- element (dissolved fraction)
- Remarks:
- Cs and Al
- Loading of aqueous phase:
- 91.5 g/L
- Incubation duration:
- >= 6 - <= 8 d
- Temp.:
- 21.8 °C
- pH:
- >= 7.75 - <= 7.87
- Details on results:
- - The mean temperature was 21.8 ± 0.4 °C.
- pH value of solutions containing the test item: 7.75 - 7.87
- pH value in method blanks: 5.54 - 5.74
- The turbidity in samples was always <1 NTU indicating that centrifuged and filtered solutions did not contain any undissolved material.
- Aluminium concentrations in method blank samples of all sampling days: 25.7 ± 32.1 µg/L (6d), 23.1 ± 28.2 µg/L (7d), 23.5 ± 28.8 µg/L (8d)
- Cesium concentrations in method blank samples of all sampling days: 115 ± 145 µg/L (6d), 146 ± 186 µg/L (7d), 149 ± 190 µg/L (8d)
Due to the low background concentration of aluminium and cesium in method blanks in contrast to the aluminium and cesium concentration in test samples a subtraction of the mean method blank is considered as not necessary and is not performed. - Conclusions:
- Based on dissolved Cs and Al the solubilty of cesium fluoroaluminate was determined. The test substance has a water solubility of 19.1 ± 0.14 g/L at ca. 22 °C.
Reference
The cesium and aluminium measurements were performed by ICP-OES and ICP-MS. In the following tables the results are summarised.
The calculated variations / changes between the sampling points were less than 15 % for the days 7 and 8. Thus, the validity criteria as foreseen in OECD 105 [4] and Regulation 440/2008/EC A.6 were fulfilled.

The amount of dissolved Cesium tetrafluoroaluminate was calculated by:
Considering aluminium and cesium:
Amount of aluminium in test item = 10.2 %
Amount of cesium in test item = 57.7 %
Amount of aluminium and cesium = 67.7 %
Purity of the test item = 98.2 %
Mean concentration of aluminium and cesium added:
Vessel 1: 13.2 ± 0.08 g/L
Vessel 1: 13.2 ± 0.12 g/L
With this concentrations the dissolved test item was calculated:
Mean of concentration x 98.2 % / 67.7 %:
