Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeabilty (BCOP) test, the test item should not be classified for eye irritation or serious eye damage according to the criteria of the CLP regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. However, the test item was concluded to be a potential skin irritant based on the in vitro skin irritation test results.

Based on the classification as Skin Irritant cat. 2 (H315) and according to the precautionary principle, the preferred approach is to overrule the results obtained in this in vitro eye irritation test and to opt for a worst case classification as Eye Irritant cat. 2 (H319).
