Short-term toxicity studies were conducted on MV 31 with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, Daphnia magna, and Danio rerio. All key studies were limit tests conducted well in excess of the 145 µg/L water solubility limit, with loading rates of 100 mg/L (P. subcapitata, D. rerio), or 4000 mg/L (D. magna) in closed chambers with no head space. No effects were seen on growth or mortality in algae, or fish, respectively. 30% immobilization was seen in the study with Daphnia, with a measured concentration of 91 µg/L. Eight of nine immobilized organisms were trapped at the deposit of undissolved MV 31, and the immobilization was possibly due to mechanical entrapment in the test material. There were no other adverse effects noted in any of the studies. In an activated sludge test, no effects were observed at a loading rate of 1000 mg/L.
