Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as 2-ethylhexanoic acid, copper salt are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Based on the solubility of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, copper salt in water, a complete dissociation resulting in copper cations and 2-ethylhexanoate anions may be assumed under environmental conditions. Abiotic degradation is not relevant for copper ions. After evaporation or exposure to the air, 2-ethylhexanoic acid will be slowly degraded by photochemical processes.Based on the lack of hydrolysable functional groups, hydrolysis is not expected to be an important fate path for 2-ethylhexanoate.
