THERMAL STABILITY

During the assessment of thermal stability with DSC, in the temperature range of 70 - 80 °C a small exothermic effect directly followed by an endothermic effect in the temperature range of 80 - 95 °C was observed. A small and broad exothermic effect in the temperature range of 190 - 230 °C could by observed. No further thermal effects were observed up to the test end temperature of 300 °C.

Conclusions:
The vapour pressure of the test item Octadecanoic Acid, reaction products with triethylenetetramine was calculated by extrapolation of the measured vapour pressure curve for the temperatures 20, 25 and 50 °C.
At 20 °C, the vapour pressure is 3.4E-6 Pa.
At 25 °C, the vapour pressure is 6.3E-6 Pa.
At 50 °C, the vapour pressure is 1.1E-4 Pa.
Executive summary:

The vapour pressure of the test item Octadecanoic acid, reaction products with triethylenetetramine was determined by the "effusion method: vapour pressure balance" according to OECD Guideline 104 (23 March 2006) and according to the test method A.4."Vapour Pressure" as described in the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

Before performing the test to determine the vapour pressure, the thermal stability of the test item was assessed with a DSC-measurement up to a temperature of 300 °C. In the temperature range of 50 – 130 °C an endothermic effect was observed. No further thermal effects were observed up to the test end temperature of 300 °C.

Following the assessment of thermal stability, seven measurements of the vapour pressure were performed in the temperature range of 64 °C to 128 °C.
