Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt are not available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble iron substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acidis applied since the ions of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron saltdetermine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Relevant effects of soluble iron salts to aquatic invertebrates were not identified. For 2-ethylhexanoate, the lowest EC50 identified amounts to 85.4 mg/L (48-h) based on available data from three studies using a weight of evidence approach. Thus, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt appears to have a low potential for acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
