Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt are not available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble iron substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron saltdetermine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Relevant effects of soluble iron salts to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria were not identified. For 2-ethylhexanoic acid, studies on the alga Scenedesmus subspicatus (new name: Desmodesmus subspicatus) derived an EC50 (72h) of 49.3 mg/L. Thus, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt appears to have a low potential for toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria.
