Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt are not available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble iron substances and

2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Relevant effects of soluble iron salts to aquatic microorganisms were not identified. For 2-ethylhexanoate, EC10 (71.7 mg/L) and EC50 (112.1 mg/L) values were derived after 17 hours of exposure of Pseudomonas putida. Thus, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, iron salt appears to have some potential for toxicity to aquatic microorganisms.
