Description of key information

In the assessment of acute strontium 2-ethylhexanoate toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, read-across to the assessment entities soluble strontium substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate determine its toxicity in the environment. For strontium, acute toxicity data is available with a 48-h EC50 of > 56.3 mg Sr/L as well as a 48 -h LC50 of 125 mg strontium/L. Respective EC/LC50 values of further supporting acute toxicity studies are overall well above 100 mg strontium/L. For 2-ethylhexanoate, the lowest EC50 identified amounts to 85.4 mg/L (48-h) based on available data from three studies using a weight of evidence approach. Thus, strontium 2-ethylhexanoate appears to have a low potential for acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
