Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
Direct weighings were prepared to give the desired series of test concentrations. 21.9, 47.9, 105.6, 231.6 and 509.7 mg of the test item were added each to 1 litre of dilution water, treated for 1 h in an ultrasonic bath and stirred for 24 h on a magnetic stirrer. Undissolved particles of the test item were removed by filtration using folded filters of pore size 7-12 μm. The pH of each test solution was adjusted to 6.0.
19 mL of the solutions were taken and diluted with 1 mL of dilution water containing 10 daphnids resulting in final concentrations of 20.7, 45.5, 100, 220 and 484 mg/L. For each test item concentration and the control 2 replicates were prepared.

Details on results:
The 48h-EC50 is expressed in term of actual loading of Aluminium-Skimmings.

The highest test concentration (484 mg/L nominally, corresponding to a mean measured concentration of 3.5 mg/L) exhibited a 20 % immobilisation effect after 24 h and 48 h of exposure.
