The toxicity of the test item to Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss; previous name: Salmo gairdneri) was evaluated in two experimental studies, the first according to the OECD Guideline 203 (1981) and the second according to the EU Method C.1 (1984).
In the first study, a limit test, 10 Rainbow trout were exposed to 100 mg/l test item for 96 hours, which was renewed every 24 hours. A negative control group containing 10 Rainbow Trout was tested in parallel using test medium without the addition of test item. Mortality, toxic symptoms, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, water hardness, conductivity and test item concentration were monitored daily. In the second study, groups of 10 Rainbow trout were subjected to test item concentrations of 300, 350, 450, 500, 600 and 800 mg/l in reconstituted water for 96 hours. Test animals were monitored daily for signs of mortality and toxicity; water was monitored daily for dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature. A control group of 10 Rainbow trout in reconstituted water only were tested in parallel. LC50 was estimated using the LOGIT Model at 95 % confidence limits based on mortality at nominal doses. Concentration of the test item in test media was monitored at 2, 48 and 96 hours after study initiation. Data were subjected to analysis by the LOGIT Model.
