Description of key information

In an algal growth inhibition test according to OECD 201, the effect of tripotassium hexacyanocobaltate on the growth of Raphidocelis subcapitata was investigated. A 72-h EC10 of 33.35 mg/L and a 72-h EC50 of 87.59 mg/L tripotassium hexacyanocobaltate (both nominal, analytically verified) were determined for the growth rate of R. subcapitata (Schlich, 2017). Thus, tripotassium hexacyanocobaltate appears to have a low to moderate potential for toxicity to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
87.59 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
33.35 mg/L
