Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
December 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Version / remarks:
2008
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Method with capillary tube, device with metal block
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= 26 - <= 28.8 °C
Atm. press.:
101.3 kPa
Remarks on result:
other: The test substance melted to clear light yellowish liquid.

The aluminium block was cooled down to 2 - 8 °C in a fridge, then the capillary tube containing the test substance was set into the block at 5.6 °C resp. 10.6 °C. The block was left with insulation wrappings at room temperature to warm up (slope = 0.2 K/min.) until melting started. The temperature was noted at which the first signs of melting of the test substance could be observed. When the substance was completely melted, the temperature was noted again. Two determinations of the melting temperature were performed.

Conclusions:
The mean values of both determinations give the following melting range: 26.2 °C to 28.8 °C

Description of key information

The melting range of dimethyl-2,2'-azobis(isobutyrat) is 26.2 to 28.8 °C. It was determined according to EU A.1 ( method: capillary tube with metal block). For the assessment the lower end of the melting range is considered.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
26.2 °C
