- Executive summary:
The determination of the adsorption coefficient of the test material was performed according to the OECD Guideline No. 121/ EU Method C. 19 with GLP statement.
The experimental method uses HPLC for the estimation of the adsorption coefficient Koc in soil. An analytical column Hypersil H5CPS (25 cm x 4.6 mm internal diameter) was used, with a column temperature at 25 °C. The mobile phase was methanol: water (55:45 v/v). The test item was prepared in mobile phase (18.7 mg/L). The dead time was determined by measuring the retention time of formamide, diluted in mobile phase. The following reference mixture was prepared in HPLC mobile phase: Acetanilide, Nitrobenzene, Naphthalene, 2-Methylnaphthalene, Anthracene and DDT. A solution of test item (18.7 mg/L in mobile phase) was prepared and chromatographed in duplicate, bracketed by samples of the reference mixture, using the HPLC.
In the present study, the reference items covered the range of log Koc 1.25 to 5.63.
Under the conditions of the test, the retention time of the test item was found at 4.340 min for the first injection and at 4.328 min for the second injection. The corresponding log Koc was 2.7 (Koc = 510 L/Kg).
