Description of key information

Selected study of this end-point was carried out according to OECD Guideline 209 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test). Small Vinyl Ester was tested in an activated sludge inhibition test. Under the conditions of the test the 3-hour EC50 was found to be > 100 mg/l, based on duplicated measurements of the inhibition of the respiration rate of activated sludge. Hence, Small Vinyl Ester was found to be non-toxic to waste water bacteria (activated sludge) at a loading rate of 100 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since Small Vinyl Ester is insoluble in water; the test substance sample was prepared by making stock solutions in acetone. No (significant) inhibition of the respiration rate of the sludge was recorded at a loading rate of 100 mg/l in duplicate measurements. Therefore the EC50exceeded the loading rate of 100 mg/l and no further testing was needed.
