Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- auto-ignition temperature (liquids)
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 19 to 26 March 2019
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Justification for type of information:
- The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. The substance is considered to be adequately characterised with its purity. Therefore, full validation applies.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- EssentÍal oil of Summer Savory/batch No. SSVI.ES.sample
Date of manufacture: 08.01.2019
Expration date of the batch: 08.01.2021
UVCB substance;
Purity test date: 18.01.2019 - Key result
- Auto-ignition temperature:
- 390 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 1 013 hPa
- Conclusions:
- Auto-ignition temperature of the test item is stated as 390 °C.
This parameter/method is not relevant for classification; however, the information is useful regarding potential additional fire hazard. No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage. - Executive summary:
The purpose of this study was the determination of the auto-ignition temperature (liquids and gases) of the test item according: European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, A.15. auto-ignition temperature (liquids and gases). The auto ignition temperature was determined in three independent determinations. The lowest value of the auto ignition temperature is 394°C. The auto ignition temperature is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5°C.
Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature of the test item according to the auto-ignition test conditions in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, Method 4.15. is stated as 390°C.

Description of key information
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
- 390 °C
Additional information
The study was performed according to the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Part A: Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties A.15. Auto-ignition temperature (liquids and gases) and closely following the standard DIN 51794.2003-05 "Testing of mineral oil hydrocarbons - Determination of ignition temperature".
The lowest auto-ignition temperature of the test item was determined to be 394 °C in the main test. Due to safety reasons and according to the guidelines the lowest measured temperature at which an ignition was observed was rounded to the next lower number divisible by 5, giving a value of 390 °C.
