- Executive summary:
First, a safety test was performed. A small amount of the test item was heated on a magnesia groove with a gas burner in order to derive safety precautions. Melting to a yellowish liquid and then evaporating was observed. In the preliminary screening test following the EU and UN method, the test item was heated with the flame of a teclu burner. The test item melted to a yellowish liquid. No ignition occurred within two minutes. After cooling down, the test item had turned to a white wax like solid. Therefore, the test item Bisamid should be considered as not highly flammable (for EU regulations) non-flammable solid (for UN regulations).

Description of key information
The substance consists of multiple different constituents with similar chemical structure: N,N'-ethane-1,2-diylbis(12-hydroxyoctadecanamide), N,N'-hexane-1,6-diylbis(12-hydroxyoctadecanamide) and N,N'-[1,3-phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(12-hydroxyoctadecanamide).There are no experimental data on the multi-constituent substance available. The individual constituents and mixtures of structurally similar bisamides are considered suitable read-across substances. Experimental results are provided from guideline studies for the read-across substances 1,3-bis[12-hydroxy-octadecamide-N-methylene]-benzene and 12-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid, reaction products with 1,3-benzenedimethanamine and hexamethylenediamine. According to the study records, neither tested read-across substance is considered highly inflammable.
Since all constituents are structurally similar to each other, the properties of the substance being registered regarding flammability are expected to be comparable to the properties of the read-across substances. Therefore, we conclude that the substance being registered is not flammable. Further testing is not considered necessary.
