Conclusions:
The 96-hour LC50 of Alcohols, C12-14, ethoxylated (2 EO) to Brachydanio rerio was investigated in accordance to EU Guideline 92/69 EWG Part C 1. The LC50 was determined to be 1.2 mg/l.

Description of key information

LC50 (96h) = 1.2 mg/L for fish (Cyprinus carpio and Danio rerio)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Fresh water fish
Effect concentration:
1.2 mg/L

Additional information

Since no data for decan-1-ol, ethoxylated, 1-2.5EO (CAS 26183-52-8), are available the acute toxicity on fish is assessed on the basis of data from studies with similar alcohol ethoxylates (C12, 4 EO; CAS 9002-92-0, and C12-14, 2EO; CAS 68439-50-9). As aquatic toxicity increases with an increase in the length of the hydrocarbon chain the resulting LC50 values can be considered as worst case.

The first study was carried out according to GLP and EU Method C.1 (Acute Toxicity for Fish) with analytical verification of the test concentrations (Sasol, 1997). Carp (Cyprinus carpio) was exposed for 96 h under semi-static conditions. Based on nominal concentrations, an LC50 (96h) of 1.2 mg/L is reported.

The second study (Sasol, 1995) was carried out according to GLP and EU Method C.1 (Acute Toxicity for Fish) as well. And analytical verification of the test concentrations was performed. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) was exposed for 96 h under semi-static conditions. Based on measured concentrations (geo. mean), an LC50 (96h) of 1.2 mg/L was derived.
