Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
07 May 2018 to 28 May 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Potassium bromate was used as a reference substance. Ignition source is an ignition wire. Train test not used. These deviations are not considered to affect the reliability of the study
GLP compliance:
yes
Contact with:
other: potassium bromate
Duration of test (contact time):
3 min
Key result
Sample tested:
1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
> 180 s
Key result
Sample tested:
4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
> 180 s

The burning rates of the test item and reference mixtures are given in Table 1 and Table 2, below.

The mean burning time of both test item mixtures was more than the mean burning time of the 3:7 (w/w) reference mixture. According to this, the test item has no oxidising properties.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item was concluded to have no oxidising properties
Executive summary:

The full test procedure specified in EC A.17 was performed to monitor the oxidising properties of the test substance.

Based on the results obtained it was concluded that the test item has no oxidising properties and is therefore not classified as a Division 5.1 substance.

Description of key information
