Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, but without detailed documentation. The test substance is adequately identified. Therefore validation applies with restrictions.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Version / remarks:
27th July 1995
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Version / remarks:
Regulation (EC) No 440/2008
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: BS4633, Method for the Determination of Crystallizing Point.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -20 °C
Atm. press.:
980 hPa

Accuracy: ± 0.5°C

Note that the sample was also kept in the freezer at -25°C. After 5 days storage, the sample was more viscous, but no crystallization was observed.

Conclusions:
No further testing required (< -20°C).
Executive summary:

The freezing point of the test substance was determined according to OECD 102/EU A1 guideline using BS4633 method for the determination of crystallizing point.

An aliquot was placed in a cooling bath, and the temperature was recorded at regular intervals.

No freezing was observed down to the minimum test temperature of -20°C.

Description of key information

Freezing point < -20°C.

No further testing is required.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC/BS guideline, is available. Despite restrictions for lack of experimental details, it is considered as a key study.

As no freezing was observed down to -20°C, the result is expressed as a limit value, and cannot be retained as key data.
