Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 = 320 mg/L  nominal value

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
320 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
320 mg/L

Additional information

The modified test to measure the real toxic effect has demonstrated that the observed growth inhibition effect of the test substance on Scenedesmus subspîcatus was caused in a high degree (> 50 %) due to the indirect effect, the light absorption in the coloured test solutions. Thus, the 72-hours EµC 50 and EbC 50 for Reactive Orange 16 could be determined to be clearly higher than 320 mg test substance/L when based on the real toxic effect. The literature study result (Novotný 2005) has been disregarded since it doesn't take into account the light shading effect of the coloured substance. This effect has been also confirmed on the similar substance 2.
