Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justification for type of information:
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VIII, section 9.3.1, the test on adsorption/desorption screening does not need to be conducted as the substance zinc cyanide can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption based on the octanol water partition coefficient. The theoretical, calculated log Pow is - 2.31 (estimated with KOWWIN v1.68), i.e. very low, as expected for an inorganic substance.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VIII, section 9.3.1, the test on adsorption/desorption screening does not need to be conducted as the substance zinc cyanide can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption based on the octanol water partition coefficient. The theoretical, calculated (EPIWIN) log Pow is - 2.31, i.e. very low, as expected for an inorganic substance.

Nevertheless, for CSA purposes, a value must be provided.

There are no experimental value for this endpoint. Estimated values have been generated by QSAR Methods. The calculation methods and Koc values are reported here below:

- MCI Method from KOCWIN v2.0 with the CAS No of the substance as input = 3.334 L/kg

- LogKow Method from KOCWIN v2.0 with the CAS No of the substance as input = 2.702 L/kg

- Estimation of Log Koc by TGD (2003) Equation for non hydrophobics (default QSAR) with the log kow of the substance as input (-2.31 estimated with KOWWIN v1.68) = 0.659 L/kg

ECHA Guidance (chapter R.7.a,paragraph R.7.1.15) recommends calculating the Koc endpoint value as the geometric mean of results obtained by means of QSARs. Therefore, a key value for chemical safety assessment is calculated by the geometric mean of the values cited above:

Geometric mean of koc = 1.81 L/kg.

This geometric mean value is used as input parameter for Environmental Risk Assessment.
