Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Name:
Heptafluoroisobutyrylnitrile
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
gas
Reference substance:
Heptafluoroisobutyrylnitrile
Name:
Heptafluoroisobutyrylnitrile
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
gas
Reference substance:
Heptafluoroisobutyrylnitrile
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The parent C4 F-isonitrile is not persistent in aquatic system as it is readily hydrolyzed to heptafluoroisopropylamide. It is not subject to bioaccumulation because of the same hydrolytic instability, and aquatic toxicity cannot be meaningfully tested . The hydrolysis product is very persistent, but is not bioaccumulative based on its log Kow. Acute toxicity studies of the hydrolysis product show no toxicity to fish or aquatic invertebrate up to ca. 100 mg/L, above which testing was not performed. The EC50 was not reached in algae testing, with a NOEC of 10 mg/L. While the most sensitive species had a NOEC well above the toxicity criterion, definitive data are not available for all three trophic levels.

The available mammalian toxicity testing results show the both the parent and the hydrolysis product do not meet the criteria for classification as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (category 1A or 1B), or toxic for reproduction (category 1A, 1B or 2) according to the CLP regulation. There is no other evidence of chronic toxicity, as identified by the substances NOT meeting criteria for classification: STOT RE1, or STOT RE2 according to the CLP Regulation. The substances are NOT classified as H350, H340, H372, H373, H350i, H360, or H361.
