The heat of decomposition in the DCS measurements was below 500 J/g. Therefore, and under the assumption that the test item consisted mainly of organic components the main test on explosive properties was not necessary.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.14 to determine the explosive properties of the test item. A screening test on thermal stability using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under nitrogen was performed. The test item and the reference were heated up from ambient to the final temperature at a constant heating rate (3 K/min) in a defined atmosphere (nitrogen). Closed crucibles were used as containers for the test item and the reference. The quantity of heat absorbed or released was measured and recorded. Two DSC measurements in closed glass crucibles showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 135 -210 °C and an exothermal effect in the temperature range of 320- 450 °C with a maximum energy release of 381 J/9.The heat of decomposition was below 500 J/g. Therefore the main test on explosive properties had not to be performed. In conclusion, the test item had no explosive properties.
