Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
253 °C
Decomposition:
no

The first increase of temperature during DSC experiment showed an endotherm of 126 J/g starting from 257°C, which is related to the sample melting. No exotherm was detected in the range 25°C – 400°C. The second temperature raise after cooling the sample confirms these results (black curve). An endotherm of 84 J/g is observed, starting from 253 °C. No exotherm was noticed. The difference between the measured values for the melting is due to the thermal history of the sample which is erased after the sample cooling. This cooling (blue curve) from 400°C to 25°C shows a crystallization whose order of magnitude (-87 J/g) confirms the 84 J/g observed for the melting.

Conclusions:
The melting of Sodium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide was observed at a temperature of 253°C.
Executive summary:

The melting point of sodium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (NaTFSI) was determined under the ISO-9001:2015 Standard, using the differential scanning calorimetry method. The test item was loaded at room temperature in the DSC test cell under nitrogen atmosphere in a glove box in order to ensure a low humidity. The stainless steel crucible was sealed under nitrogen atmosphere. The temperature was increased from 25 to 400°C at 2°C/min. In this range of temperature no exotherm was detected. Under these conditions the melting of NATFSI can be observed at a temperature of 253°C (Tonset).

Description of key information

Sodium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide will melt at a temperature of 253°C (T-onset).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
253 °C
