First-aid measures

General: Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved, and take precautions to protect themselves. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Inhalation: If dust from the material is inhaled, removed the affected person immediately to fresh air.  Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist.

Skin contact: Wash off with soap and plenty of water.  If skin irritation or rash occurs get medical advice/attention.  For minor skin contact, avoid spreading material on unaffected skin.

Eye contact: Rinse with water.  Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists.

Ingestion: Rinse mouth.  If ingestion of a large amount does occur, call a poison control centre immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both delayed and acute: May cause allergic skin reaction.

Fire-fighting measures

General fire hazards: No unusual fire or explosion hazards noted.

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media: Water fog. Foam. Dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide (CO2).

Unsuitable extinguishing media: Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters: Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

Special fire fighting procedures:  In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray.  Water runoff can cause environmental damage.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel: Keep unnecessary personnel away.  Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.  Wear appropriate personal protective equipment,  Wear a dust mask if dust is generated above exposure limits.  Do not touch or walk through spilled material.  Avoid inhalation of dust,  Ensure adequate ventilation.  Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained.

Environmental precautions:  Avoid release o the environment.  Contact local authorities in case of spillage to drain/aquatic environment.  Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.  Do not contaminate water.  Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:  Minimise dust generation and accumulation.  This product is miscible in water.  Collect spillage.  If sweeping of a contaminated area is necessary use a dust suppressant agent which does not react with the product.  Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and collect in suitable container for disposal.  Collect dust using a vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter.  Prevent product from entering drains.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:  Minimise dust generation and accumulation.  Provide appropriate dust exhaust ventilation at places where dust is formed.  Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.  Provide adequate ventilation.  Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.  Observe good industrial hygiene practices.  Practice good housekeeping.  Avoid release to the environment.  Do not empty into drains.

Conditions for sage storage, including any incompatibilities:  Keep container tightly closed. Store in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.  Store in a well-ventilated place.  Guard against dust accumulation of this material.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

Occupational exposure limits: Follow standard monitoring procedures.

Biological limit values: No biological exposure limits noted for the ingredient(s).

Recommended monitoring procedures: Follow standard monitoring procedures.

Exposure controls

Appropriate engineering controls:  Ventilation should be sufficient to effectively remove and prevent buildup of any dusts or fumes that may be generated during handling or thermal processing. Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment

General information:  Personal protection equipment should be chosen according to the CEN standards and in discussion with the supplier of the personal protective equipment.

Eye/face protection:  Use tight fitting goggles if dust is generated.

Skin protection

Hand protection:  Wear protective gloves.

Hand protection break through time: 60 minutes

Remarks: Nitrile rubber gloves.

Do not wear leather gloves.

Do not wear cotton gloves.

Other:  Wear suitable protective clothing.

Respiratory protection:  Wear respirator with dust filter.

Hygiene measures: Always observe good personal hygiene measures such as washing after handling the material and before eating, drinking and/or smoking.  Routinely wash work clothing and protective equipment to remove contaminants.  Contaminated work clothing should bot be allowed out of the workplace.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:  The product is stable and non-reactive under normal conditions of use, storage and transport.

Chemical Stability:  Material is stable under normal conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:  No dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.

Conditions to avoid:  Avoid spread of dusts.

Incompatible materials:  Strong oxidising agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: If product is burned hazardous gases such as oxides of carbon and nitrogen and various hydrocarbons may be produced.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Residual waste:  Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.  Empty containers or liners may retain some product residues.  This material and its container must be disposed of in a safe manner.

Contaminated packaging:  Empty containers should be taken to an approved waste handling site for recycling or disposal.  Since emptied containers may retain product residue, follow label warnings even after container is emptied.

EU waste code:  The Waste code should be assigned in discussion between with user, the producer and the waste disposal company.

Disposal methods/information:  Collect and reclaim or dispose in sealed containers at licensed waste disposal site.  This material and its container must be disposed of as hazardous waste.  Do not allow this material to drain into the sewers/water supplies.  Do not contaminate ponds, waterways, or ditches with chemical or used container.  Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
