Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Test procedure:
- ignition time on contact with air
- Remarks on result:
- no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
- Remarks:
- Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state.
- Interpretation of results:
- not classified based on GHS criteria
- Conclusions:
- The test material is not classified as a flammable solid as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, testing (required in section 7.10) is not needed because the test item shows no self-heating to 400 °C, based on inert inherent properties. Furthermore a study carried out on the analogue substance Kieselghur soda ash flux calcined, was negative for flammability. - Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
- data waiving: supporting information

Description of key information
Experience of manufacture and use shows no evidence of flammability or Pyrophoric properties. Furthermore a study carried out on the analogue substance Kieselghur soda ash flux calcined showed no evidence of ignition on contact with air, based on this it can be concluded that Synthetic Wollastonite should be considered to be not classified for flammability.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, testing (required in section 7.10) does not appear to be scientifically necessary because silica, the parent structure analogue of Synthetic Wollastonite, is not combustible and is known to be stable. Furthermore experience of manufacture and use shows no evidence of flammability or Pyrophoric properties.
A study carried out on the analogue substance Kieselghur soda ash flux calcined showed no evidence of ignition on contact with air, based on this it can be concluded that Synthetic Wollastonite should be considered to be not classified for flammability.
