Description of key information

No acute toxicity expected

Few data is available in literature on the acute toxicity of target substance. No information on test methods and results is availble, however, available data is consistent and indicates a low acute toxicity. In particular, lethal doses (LD) above 180 mg/kg is reported for mouse upon intravenous exposure ( U.S. Army Armament Research & Development Command, Chemical Systems Laboratory, NIOSH Exchange Chemicals).

Available data on structural analogues is also examined.

A part from a study on 2-methyl-1-nitroanthraquinone showing a LD value above 500 mg/kg, all the studies on the other similar substances show LD values > 2000 mg/kg, suggesting a very low toxicity for this class of substances after short-term exposure.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Available experimental data on target substance as well as on structural analogues was examined.

LD50 values by oral route were most cases above the threshold value of 2000 mg/kg for classification within the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), thus no classification is proposed.
