Description of key information
Teflubenzuron was stable to photolysis for up to 7 days (93% AR as teflubenzuron) at pH 5 and 25 °C. The degradation was then accelerated with 45% AR as teflubenzuron after 15 days. A photolytic half-life was estimated at about 10 days.

- Half-life in water:
- 10 d
Additional information
Two studies on the photodegradation in water are available. Both studies are summarized in the following for sake of completeness but have however not been documented in separate IUCLID Endpoint Study Records.
HRC (1987b): The photodegradation of 14C-CME 134 in aqueous solution. DocID according to Draft Assessment Report prepared in compliance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009: TZ-322-002; crossreference to Draft Assessment Report according to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009: 2.9.2/01.
The photodegradation of [14C]-teflubenzuron uniformly labelled in the aniline ring was determined in a buffered solution at pH 5 at a concentration of 0.1 mg/L, irradiated with artificial light from a xenon arc lamp of 150 klux intensity for 15 days at 25 °C.
Teflubenzuron was stable to photolysis for up to 7 days (93% AR as teflubenzuron) at pH 5 and 25 °C.The degradation was then accelerated with 45% AR as teflubenzuron after 15 days. A photolytic half-life was estimated at about 10 days.
RMS recalculated a half life of 17.7 days by non linear regression based on first order kinetics; RMS estimated a half life for latitudes 40 °N of 13.7 days under continuous irradiation.
A second study on Phototransformation in water was performed with [14C-aniline]-teflubenzuron.
Fresenius (1995): Determination of the Direct Phototransformation of 14C-Teflubenzuron in a Buffered Medium at PH5. DocID according to Draft Assessment Report prepared in compliance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009: TZ-324-001; crossreference to Draft Assessment Report according to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009: 2.9.2/02.
As supportive infomation the results of this study are given below:
The quantum yield of direct photolysis of [14C-aniline]-teflubenzuron was determined in a buffered medium at pH 5.0 and 20 °C.
The quantum yield of [14C-aniline]-teflubenzuron was calculated to be 4.91x10–9 (290-490 nm). The photolytic DT50 was 375 hours at pH 5.0 and 20 °C.
The calculated DT50 in water is 15.63 days.
