Description of key information
Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods
In a 14-days artificial soil test according to OECD TG 207 the short-term LC50 of the test item for soil macroorganisms except arthropods is considered to be > 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight. Supporting information of the toxicity on earthworms is provided by the 56-days study with the metabolites of the test item CL 902374 (CFPU) and CL 907373 (CFA) according to OECD Guideline No. 222. Eisenia andrei were exposed to a mixture of 62.5% CFPU and 37.5% and a NOEC of CFA ≥ 8.0 mg test item/kg soil (dw) was estimated.
Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods
Toxicity of the test item was tested in both, an acute oral and contact toxicity test on honey bees (Apis mellifera carnica) according to OECD 213/214. The LD50 (48 h) was > 72 µg teflubenzuron/bee (solvent sugar solution) in the oral toxicity test and in the contact a 48-h LD50 of > 100 µg teflubenzuron/bee was determined.
Additionally, the toxicity effects of teflubenzuron in the formulation Nomolt 150 SC Teflubenzuron to the green lacewing Chrysoperla carnea Steph. (Neuroptera, Chrysopidae) were investigated using an extended laboratory test (BASF DocID: 2003/1009441). The resulting endpoint LR50=0.73 g teflubenzuron/ha was calculated.
Toxicity to terrestrial plants
In the seedling emergence and growth test according to the OECD 209 the test item showed no significant effect on the emergence of the seedlings. Therefore the ER50 and the NOEC for all six plants were determined to be > 120 g teflubenzuron/ha, which corresponds to > 0.125 mg teflubenzuron/kg soil dw.
Toxicity to soil microorganisms
In a carbon transformation and a nitrogen transformation study which was performed in one study according to BBA IV, part 1-1. The test item had no adverse effect on carbon transformation and no effect on soil nitrogen turnover at concentrations of up to 2 mg teflubenzuron/kg soil dry weight. The NOEC (for both) was determined to be 2 mg teflubenzuron/kg soil dry weight.
Toxicity to birds
In an avian acute oral toxicity test with Anas platyrhynchos according to Guideline US EPA/FIFRA No. 71-1 (1983) the 14-day LD50 of the test item was determined to be > 2000 mg teflubenzuron/kg bw. In a second avian acute oral toxicity test with Colinus virginianus according to Guideline US EPA/FIFRA No. 71-1 (1982) the 14-day LD50 of the test item was determined to be > 2250 mg teflubenzuron/kg bw.
