Additional information
Monoethylene glycol and the read across substance potassium acetate do not produce any signs of skin irritation when tested using in vivo assays. Pure diethylene glycol produces slight irritation in similar studies but at levels that are insufficient to require classification. When tested at 10% it produces no irritation response.
Monoethylene glycol produces negligible irritation in an in vivo study. Diethylene glycol produces slight irritation in in vivo studys but this is quickly reversed. Potassium acetate, a read across substance for sodium acetate, produces slight chemosis and conjunctival effects but these full reverse within 24 -48 hours.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Two of the main components of this multi-constituent substance produce no skin irritation at all and one only shows very slight and transient skin irritation properties. The criteria for classification for none of the main components are met and therefore the criteria for classification for skin irritation are not met based on the intrinsic hazards of the main components. It should be borne in mind that this substance can contain alkaline impurities that can lead to classification based on the pH of the final composition.
One of the main components of this multi-constituent substance shows negligible eye irritation. The other two components produce slight irritation that is quickly reversed. The criteria for classification for none of the main components are met and therefore the criteria for classification for eye irritation are not met based on the intrinsic hazards of the main components.
