Description of key information

3-methoxybutyl acetate is considered to be readily biodegradable, with > 70% degradation at the end of the 10 day window.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The key study by Hoechst AG (1995) is GLP compliant and follows a standard guideline. It is therefore considered suitable for use as a key study and shows 3-methoxybutyl acetate to be readily biodegradable, with > 70% degradation at the end of the 10 day window. Supporting studies show > 90% degradation in 3 days (Zahn and Wellens, 1980) and show 3-methoxybutyl acetate to be inherently biodegradable (Hoechst AG, 1996). On this basis, 3-methoxybutyl acetate is not considered likely to be persistent in the environment.
